Me: "Mae, did you color on my desk?"
Mae: "Yes"
Me: "Please don't do that anymore, okay?"
Mae: "No, I dint color on your desk!"
Me: "Yes you did, please don't lie."
Mae: "No! I don't wanna lie!"
Me: "Then don't lie."
Mae: "I not lying, I just talking!"

first home as newlyweds
when tom and i were first married (it'll be six years in july. can you believe it?!) we lived in provo while tom finished his undergrad at BYU.
our bathroom didn't have a door so we had to get creative and hang a curtain, and there was a HUGE window right inside the shower. We had to buy a shade for it or else everyone would've seen our nakedness. yikes!

and our best birdy, Sierra! My cousin Heidi gave her to us and we loved her to death. She talked a lot and loved to take showers with us. Once she flew towards me as I was getting ready for work. I was in a hurry and I didn't want her to land on me, so I ducked down really fast and smacked my face on a chair. My tooth went right through my lower lip and I had to skip work and pay $275 for THREE little stitches.
we found the cutest little aparment, an old house that had been converted into five small apartments. they preserved the old charm, like the high ceilings and doors, and our entire apartment was painted a pretty shade of blue. we loved that place, even though there was no air conditioner (!!! thank goodness for window ac units, right?) and the heater clanked and rattled and hardly worked.
the back of the house had a tiny room with a w/d unit which everyone shared. I got locked in their once and had to climb out the teeny tiny window at the very top of the wall
. Oh, and we had some little neighbor girls that loved to hang out in our apartment, and then one of them developed an unhealthy crush on Tom and I had to have a word with her. We had some adventures there, for sure.
i thought it would be fun to share pictures of our very first home together.

We ended up giving her to an aviary primarily for mating birds (go Sierra!) because she would get so lonely while we were gone all day, that she would pluck herself bald!

and there it is, folks. Our first place together!

a poetry reading
Edward Hopper is one of my favorite artists. I've never been good at describing why I'm drawn to certain things, so it's hard for me to explain why I love certain artists. "Night Hawks" was the first Edward Hopper painting I'd ever seen, or at least noticed. It drew my eye straight to the woman in red. Why? There is something so classic and feminine about the style back then that I just love. I love the hats the men wore. People really took the time to look classy and modest back then, and I wish it were the same way now.
Another thing is the lighting he uses. I just...well, I like it :) (see? I stink)
I was going through some old papers and found a poem I wrote in my senior creative writing class. We were asked to pick a favorite piece of art and write about it. I was really excited because, well, I love art (duh). Like I said, I don't think I have a talent with words, but I thought this was a pretty cool poem I ended up with about this particular painting:
Lonely Streets
Green light engulfed the small bar
Yellow walls and red lips
Stood out among the lonely streets
Liquid cascaded and silver machines hummed
A man sat across the counter
His back turned towards the silent city
Waiting for a brighter day
His heart filled with pity
Eyes on the fiery red head
Across the room
And another one I wrote when I became obsessed with the ocean and orca whales (still am) and decided to write a poem about what the sea looked like through my eyes.
The black mystic fog
Envelops the slithering bodies
Flying through a liquid outer space
Under granite boulders
Lie sleeping bellies
And cautious tails slyly glide above
Eyes protrude from grainy sand
They blink, and then blink once more
Sand slides off as the flat body soars from its hideout
To seek the world above
*good times*

hip horray
Today I was thinking,"there is no way this is working. I'm eating so much food and so much GOOD food (like cheese and cookies) it's impossible."
Jorge promises you that you will lose 10 lbs in the first 14 days, which is a good amount. So this morning I weighed myself. I have lost three pounds in the last three days.
H O R R A Y !
Even if I didn't want to lose weight, I would still follow this eating plan, because honestly, it's so realistic, something you can do the rest of your life, and soooo good. Go get the cook book! its nummy.....

diet? what diet?
I'm always up for anything having to do with nutrition/exercise/losing weight. What women isn't?
My sis introduced me to a special man named Jorge Cruise a few years back. As someone who is always trying new diets and going with what's hot, this is one I always come back to and should probably just stick to.
Why? Oh, because it's realistic. It's real food. That you can eat. And not G A G on. And it's simple. Something you can follow and turn into a LIFESTYLE, not just suffer through for a few weeks, drop weight, and then give up because you're only allowed to eat sugar- free, fat-free, organic cookies that taste like something only a horse would enjoy.
I love food. I can't survive without meat. I tried it. And guess what? Nothing significant happened. I didn't notice any changes in my skin, energy levels, weight, nothing. In fact, I'm pretty sure I gained a few pounds. So back to meat I went. Oh, and dairy. I love me some ice cold milk and pina colada yogurt. nummy.
So here I am, once again vowing to change my eating habits, because I want to be healthy, energetic, and take care of the only body I've been blessed with. So I took out my Jorge Cruise 3 Hour Diet cookbook (honestly, such amazing food! Tom LOOOOVES everything I've made) and I've started my journey to healthy eating once again. And this time, I don't feel limited. I don't have to buy organic. I don't have to cut out cheese, or ice cream, or any of that good stuff. I can still have my cake and eat it too.
cheers to good health and chocolate chip cookies

Mudders Day Trip part 1
Last week we drove to Ut to surprise our mudders for Mudders Day. They were quite surprised indeed!

I spent a couple of days helping my mom in her garden. I actually REALLY enjoyed it and can't wait to have one of my own.
This is dear Winifred AKA Winnie, my parents new pup. She is adorable and I miss her so!

laundry fun
The other day Mae was helping me with the laundry. She was sitting on the dryer as I was handing her things to throw into the washer. I handed her a bra, and she held it up and studied it. Then she looked at me and asked,"Does it have boobs in it?"
Pretty much, the answer is yes. Sadly my chest starts miles beneath the padding of my bra.

study group
I've been at a standstill with my scripture studying lately, and had a great idea to start a blogging study group. If anyone wants to join, leave a comment on the blog http://iheartthebookofmormon.blogspot.com/ and I'll add you as an author.
Wouldn't it be great if we read through the book of mormon together and shared our insights and things we learn? I know it would really help me in my study and understanding of it. So come on over. Anyone is welcome, whether you're a member of the church or not. I believe being spiritually fed can benefit everyone.

mouth poo
Mae threw up this morning, all over Tom. He was so sweet and didn't want to wake me up and tried to clean it up himself. But then he came in the room and asked me to clean up the rest since he was getting pretty queasy. Mae was in the bath and I asked her if she felt better. She said "Yah, I pooped in my mouth." Well....I guess that's the only way to describe it when your two, right?
