I worked so many hours on this illustration and I ended up starting over because it wasn't turning out how I would have liked. Then I worked like crazy on the second one, and then it was too late to submit to Illustration Friday.
The topic was "book" and I immediately thought about how a good book takes you to a completely different place, as if you're actually in the story. Then the image of my daughter reading "The Little Mermaid" popped into my head, and this is what I came up with:
